Holistic Leadership
Throughout my life and career, I have been fascinated with the question: “What makes a good leader?” I have had the opportunity to serve beside and learn from leaders in a variety roles - mentors, colleagues, policymakers, teachers, parents, coaches. What I’ve learned is that the best leaders are not just those with the most technical skill, knowledge, or expertise. The best leaders are those who bring their whole, authentic selves into the spaces they lead. They adapt to change, build meaningful connections with others, communicate their vision, hold high standards for themselves and their teams, practice humility, learn as they go, and demonstrate a deep commitment to service.
Leadership is a lifelong practice of continuous learning and personal growth. I believe in a holistic approach to leadership that spans the various aspects of our lives - career, family, friendship, community, nature, health, fitness, and spiritual growth. Leadership is fundamentally about how we adapt and respond to events and circumstances that are outside of our control. When we develop and nurture this skill, and apply it broadly across the different roles we hold and spaces in which we show up, we set ourselves up for success as leaders.
My mission with Waypoint is to help others cultivate their own holistic leadership practice, and apply it to the programs, teams, and communities they serve. I do this by developing customized leadership coaching plans for individual leaders and building the capacity of leadership teams, by engaging the voices of key community members in decision-making processes, and by developing strategic plans and theories of actions that will strengthen your work.
